Slit Film Woven Woven Geotextile

A geotextile is typically defined as any permeable textile material used to increase soil stability, provide erosion control or aid in drainage. More simply put, if it is made of fabric and buried in the ground it is probably a geotextile! Geotextiles have been in use for thousands of years dating back to the Egyptian Pharaohs. These early geotextile applications were basically natural fibers or vegetation mixed directly with soil. Modern geotextiles are usually made from a synthetic polymer such as polypropylene, polyester, polyethylene and polyamides. Geotextiles can be woven, knitted or non-woven. Varying polymers and manufacturing processes result in an array of geotextiles suitable for a variety of civil construction applications.

Manufactured by weaving flat strands of polypropylene that are created by slitting a plastic sheet.

These geotextiles aid in construction over soft or weak soils by providing separation and stabilization and are excellent for park-on/drive-on applications. While they are permeable, slit-film geotextiles perform poorly when a gradient ratio test is performed. Therefore, they can clog. As such, they are not recommended for filtration applications such as bulkheads, erosion control or underdrains. US 200 is our most commonly used woven slit-film.

NTPEP APPROVED - GTX-2016-01-086. US 200 is a woven geotextile made of 100% polypropylene slit film yarns. US 200 resists ultraviolet and biological deterioration, rotting, naturally encountered basics and acids. Polypropylene is stable within a pH range of 2 to 13. US 200 will satisfy the requirements as outlined in AASHTO M-288-06 for Class 3 Stabilization & Separation applications and meets the following M.A.R.V. values except where noted:
